Cochrane’s premiere golf course, The Links of GlenEagles, is an important focal point in the community. Every year, GlenEagles hosts a variety of golf tournaments, but none as large and none as much fun as the Monumental Tournament of Aces.

This year’s ninth annual tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 and rumour has it that there are still a few spots open.  This event is one of the Town’s biggest fundraising events with community participation from experienced golfers and those who aren’t sure which end of the club is up.  Proceeds from the event benefit a variety of organizations that serve the Cochrane area.

In total, 180 golfers will spend they day playing a game loosely based on the actual game of golf and a lot of fun activities out on the GlenEagles course.  For example - some of the games are called Bunker Blow Up, or another – Don’t Break the Windows.  Every year, tournament organizers introduce a new, surprise game to keep participants on their toes.  This year’s game has been dubbed “Innocents”, the rules of which are under wraps until golfers are at the hole.

The Monumental Tournament of Aces was organized the Kimmett Family after Lindsay Kimmett, a promising medical student, tragically died in an accident.  The family also organizes a hockey tournament, the Kimmett Cup, in the winter in Cochrane.  Both important fundraising events raise funds to benefit the community by way of the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation which has provided almost $2 million in funding for Cochrane organizations, such as Cochrane Urgent Care.

These events bring the entire community together, with participation from Cochrane support groups and service clubs such as Cochrane Rotary.

Tournament Beneficiaries

This year, the Tournament of Aces will benefit Rancheview School and Cochrane Search and Rescue.

The school is seeking funding to construct a playground at Rancheview, a brand new school in the Cochrane community of Sunset Ridge. With help from this tournament, the fundraising society for the school hopes to break ground in the summer of 2017.

Cochrane Search and Rescue is a 100% volunteer-run group which needs to replace and purchase new equipment.  That includes items such as GPS units, ATVs, tracker dogs and radios. A CSAR spokesperson said that they’re honoured to be a charity of choice for this year’s event and that the funds will help their volunteer group be more effective when searching for people in the Foothills area.

How to Enter

Tickets are available to play in the tournament or to attend the dinner if golfing isn’t your thing.  Registration is either online or Cochrane residents can pop into Grand Avenue Pharmacy.

There will be a dinner, after-dinner speakers from each of the charities and an exciting live auction.  Auction items up for bids include West Jet Flights, two-night’s stay at the Chateau Lake Louise, dinners and a Ladies’ Weekend in Canmore.
