It‘s always thrilling and exciting to purchase a brand new property as you finally get to move into a different environment. However, you should be fully prepared before moving into your new house. One of the best ways to be prepared is to use a checklist for moving. The moving checklist below help ensure you have a successful, stress-free move.

Cut off Utilities

Contact your providers for electricity, water, sewerage and internet one month in advance to provide the date you would like them to disconnect the services.

Apply for New Utilities

Make sure you call and get your new utilities set up, as well. You want to call early and make sure they will get your electricity, water, sewage, cable and internet turned on as soon as you move in.

Taking Measurement

Make sure that you measure all your huge furniture prior to your move schedule as you might have a smaller walkway in your new house. Provide this information to the movers to give them a heads up.

Update Your Mailing Address

Remember to contact the post office at least five weeks in advance to update your new mailing address. Don’t forget about other important mailing address changes, such as credit cards, insurance, magazine and professional membership newsletters. Keep all of them updated, as well.

Leave a note

In order to make sure your mail doesn’t get lost, provide your new mailing address to the new home owner. They can forward any mail they receive for you to your new address.

Layout plan

To avoid messing up all your furniture arrangements in your new house, draw a layout plan with your desired arrangement by tagging all your furniture so the mover can arrange accordingly.

Emergency Kit

You never know what may happen when moving. The movers could get lost or you could become stranded in need of a hotel room for the night. Prepare an emergency kit, which contains cash, first aid kit, toiletries, food and other daily essentials just in case.

Use this checklist to make your move go much smoother.
