Cochrane - Strategically Placed Between the Mountains & City

When you want to be close to nature, want to live near a big city but at the same time would like to enjoy some peaceful and relaxing time in a warm and welcoming small town, Cochrane may be the perfect choice for you.

When you look at where some of the suburbs are situated in Calgary and how close they are to downtown, Cochrane doesn't seem all that far away. When you live here you'll quickly get used to the short commute into the city and will definitely appreciate the quick commute into the mountains.

There are about 21,000 residents living here now. This means that the town is large enough to accommodate the big box stores while at the same time preserving its small town charm. There are always new and exciting amenities being added to the landscape of the town as well.

In Cochrane, you can find accessory suites, which are also called secondary suites in the city of Calgary, in some parts of the town. Examples of these types of suites would be a basement, garden or a garage suite. They have been allowed in certain areas since 2004 when the land-use bylaws were updated. This type of housing structure offers an affordable option for people that want to live in a nice neighbourhood but don't have the budget to afford their own homes.

You won't find a lot of these accessory suites in the town yet since they are gradually being added. In 2014, for example, there were only 10 approvals handed out for the suites.
