With the change of seasons, should come the change of clutter! While you are digging for all those warm, winter clothes; why not throw out the summer ones that either don't fit or are soiled? Ask any professional organizer, and that will be the main topic of conversation.

Hallowe’en pumpkins, from the gruesome to the hilarious, will light up the night on Oct. 30 at the first annual Pumpkin Festival at Cochrane Ranch.

Organizers of this event from Cochrane High School wanted to create a community event similar to the awe-inspiring Lantern Festival put on every year in Tofino, located on the northern end of Vancouver Island in B.C.  The goal is to have hundreds of pumpkins carved by Cochrane residents on display after dark at Cochrane Ranch, a spectacle to delight young and old.

Students from the high school are creating their own festival of lights with a brilliant array of Hallowe’en jack-o’-lanterns.  Students and members of the parent council have designed this event as a fundraiser for the school, however they are

Students from six Cochrane schools are competing to win $1,000 for their school’s sustainability initiatives and need help from area homeowners.

The 2015 Cochrane School E-Waste Recycling Challenge is on from now until October 23 with cash prizes for students who collect the most e-waste.  Cochrane residents and business owners are encouraged to collect old electronics and bring them to one of these schools:

  • Manachaban Middle School
  • Cochrane High School
  • Mitford School
  • Cochrane Christian Academy
  • Ecole Notre-Dame des Vallees
  • Holy Spirit Catholic School

A councilor for the town of Cochrane would like to make the community safer by increasing the minimum road width from 9 metres to 1.5 metres, a move which could impact the number of homes in new subdivisions.

Morgan Nagel presented a notice of motion at a council meeting in September, citing perilous conditions for drivers and pedestrians alike on current residential streets in Cochrane.  Nagel also requested that the motion be put forward to the Cochrane Planning Commission before further consideration before council.

Speaking to council on Sept 14, Nagel announced that many local roads in his town were too narrow and vehicles can’t pass each other in a proper manner, which he believes presents serious safety concerns, not only for vehicular
