Live entertainment has always been part of the fabric in a small town, and Cochrane is no different.  Since 2000, Cochrane’s Vision Theatre has been providing entertainment for residents and a venue for amateur actors and performers to pursue their passion for acting on the stage.  You can get involved in Vision Theatre with the following opportunity:

Vision Theatre is looking for people who would like to direct one-act plays in the upcoming Foothills Zone Festival which takes place at the end of April in Canmore.  This opportunity is ideal for anyone with acting experience, whether a novice or a veteran actor, who would like to try directing but doesn’t want to put in the time required for a major production.   One-act plays are the perfect way to try it out.

In a one-act play, which is different than a standard play which typically has three acts, the story has to be established, the characters introduced and the story resolved, which may sound harder than it actually is.

Interest parties are responsible for choosing a suitable one-act play and one that is good taste so that it’s appropriate for submission for the festival, under the auspices of Vision Theatre which has worked hard to establish itself as good quality amateur theatre in Cochrane and area.

Vision Theatre spokespeople urge potential director candidates to choose a play that doesn’t require a large set and easy to put together as time is ticking towards the April festival.  Rehearsals and set up time for the play should fit into the director’s life and actors available for rehearsal.

Vision Theatre will select suitable plays from all submissions and then take it to the Foothills Zone Festival organizing committee for their consideration.  Those who are successful will work on the production with Vision Theatre who will help acquire script rights, organize space for rehearsals, and check on insurance for cast and crew which the director should line up at the time of submission.  There is also a festival entry fee.

Those interested in this unique opportunity to cast and direct a one-act play should contact Jonathan Bennett at Vision Theatre for more information or to present their idea.

About Vision Theatre

The mission of Vision Theatre, a not-for-profit society, is to provide live theatre in Cochrane and area. The group was started by a group of friends in 2000, some with previous theatre experience in Calgary.  The first play was Weekend Comedy by Sam and Jeanne Bobrick with a cast of four amateur players.  The merry band of players rented their first set and the first show was put on at the community hall in Cochrane with an audience of 100 people.
