What can you Expect at the Big Hill Leisure Pool?

The Big Hill Leisure Pool is found in the town of Cochrane and provides the community with a great aquatic facility. This facility provides plenty of fun for those looking for an aquatic centre within the area. Here's what you can expect at the Big Hill Leisure Pool.

The pool opened back in March of 1990 and provides swimming lessons for about 4,000 people very year. The pools, combined hold about 375,000 litres of water. This facility covers about 14,000 square feet and the new facility approved by the council could be as large age 80,000 square feet.

The facility includes:

  • A leisure pool
  • A lap pool
  • A tot area in the leisure pool
  • Large changing rooms
  • Separate family changing rooms
  • A viewing area

There are two types of open swim at the facility, which include family and public swim. Family swim requires children to be accompanies by an adult, while public swim allows children eight and older to swim on their own.

Leisure Pool vs. Lap Pool

The leisure pool allows for free-form swimming and goes from zero depth to 1 metre deep. This pool is kept at 34 degrees Celsius and provides other features. The lap pool, on the other hand, has four lanes and covers 25 metres. It goes from one metre to 2.1 metres deep and is kept at 28 degrees Celsius.

Hours and Fees

The leisure pool and lap pool provide lap swim most days of the week including:

  • Public Swim - Every day of the week at various times
  • Family Swim - Every day of the week at various times
  • Lane Swim - Starting at 6am, Monday through Friday and at 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Senior Swim - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am to 12pm
  • AquaSize Workout - Monday through Friday from 9am to 9:45am, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:15am to 12pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15pm to 8pm

The fees for the pool depend on the membership. Passes for the year, six months, three months and punch passes are available. Single day admission is $13 for a family, $5.25 for adults and $2.25 for children. Both youth and seniors receive a discounted rate of $3.50.
